Meditation for the busiest of minds

Happiness can seem elusive at times, a distant dream, or so fleeting you wonder where it went. The mind swirls around, crammed with thoughts. Disconnection and stress easily become the norm.

In today’s society, it is more important than ever to gain tools to connect to the wellspring of calm and peace within you, in the here and now. And that’s what meditation does. It gives you access to the stillness that resides deep within, a place that is steady, at ease, clear, and relaxed regardless of what’s happening around you. Science is now showing us what ancient yogis knew thousands of years ago, meditation works. And what’s even better?
Anyone can meditate, even the busiest of minds!

Globally celebrated meditation master, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, will share with you ancient techniques for contemporary life, to enable you to fill up from the inside so when the inevitable challenges of life arise, your connection to the fullness, and steadiness within, remains.

Knowing how to manage the mind is fundamental to inner peace, joy, and a centered state of mind. When the mind is calm, everything in life gets sweeter—relationships improve, stress is reduced, mood lifts, and there is a greater sense of ease and joy each day.

What the Research Says

I'm a data person, so I went down the research rabbit hole. What I found validated everything I'd experienced:

For most of the year, I was doing pretty well. Green days, some yellows, the occasional red after a late night. Nothing alarming.

Then December happened.

I've been tracking my health data for over a year now.

If I tried to design the most stressful month of my life, I couldn't have done better than December 2025.

It started with a project that would make any designer's eye twitch: 24 individual billboard designs for a massive event at the World Trade Center. Each one had to be perfect. Each one had its own dimensions, messaging, and approval chain. Each one had a deadline of yesterday.
While those were being finalized, I was simultaneously coordinating a global livestream reaching over 2 million viewers. Technical rehearsals, platform integrations, backup plans for backup plans. The kind of project where you triple-check everything because failure isn't an option when millions are watching.

Then the United Nations called. Well, not exactly called — but our team was filming at the UN for World Meditation Day. Which meant coordinating shoots in one of the most security-conscious buildings on the planet.

My schedule looked like this: design calls running until 1am. Alarm at 4:30am. Six-in-the-morning drives from Connecticut to Manhattan. Shooting all day. Drive back. Repeat.
And the Airbnb. Oh, the Airbnb.

My team booked a place in Jersey City to save on the commute. Let me paint you a picture: the couch looked like it needed a tetanus shot. The stairs went sideways — literally at an angle, like an M.C. Escher painting had a bad day. The bathroom was clearly a converted office; you could still see where the desk used to be. I'm pretty sure the shower curtain was load-bearing.
To cap the month off, I took an overnight bus to Canada for a program. If you've never tried to sleep on a Greyhound bus swaying through icy mountain roads at 2am, I don't recommend it. Every sway felt like the bus was making a decision about the guardrail.

The Month Everything Went Yellow

Yellow, Yellow, Yellow.

Every morning I'd check my score hoping to see green. Every morning: yellow. Or worse, red.

My body was doing everything right. I was meditating every day, eating well, exercising. My numbers said otherwise.
Here's what got me: I was doing all the "right things." Meditating daily. Eating clean. Getting some exercise when I could squeeze it in. I've been a wellness professional for years — I know the playbook.
But stress doesn't care about your playbook.

When your nervous system is in overdrive — when cortisol is chronically elevated and your body never fully drops into parasympathetic mode — all the green smoothies and morning routines in the world can't override the signals your body is sending.

My December Status

"I literally have had no trouble sleeping since the program."

Based on real Bevel app data • Each circle = one day

Seeing that data laid out was sobering. Nearly every day stuck in yellow or red. I wasn't just tired — my body literally wasn't recovering.

And I wasn't alone. 74% of Americans report disrupted sleep due to stress, according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. I was solidly in that majority, and I had the receipts to prove it.

The Ironic Twist

January came, and with it, a new assignment: I was asked to help lead a Sleep Reset Retreat for Art of Living

The irony was not lost on me. Here I was, the guy whose own sleep recovery had been tanking for a month straight, being asked to guide other people toward better sleep. It felt like a bald man being asked to sell shampoo.

But I said yes — partly because it was my job, and partly because I was curious. I'd been around these practices for years. I knew the theory. But somewhere in the chaos of December, I'd lost the thread on actually practicing them deeply.

In preparation for leading the retreat, I started going through the curriculum myself. Not just reviewing it intellectually — actually doing the practices. Specific breathwork patterns designed to activate the parasympathetic nervous system. Sound meditation techniques. Deep relaxation protocols that target the vagus nerve directly.

These weren't new concepts to me. But doing them with intention, in sequence, with proper guidance — that was different.

It was one thing to know these practices existed.

I'd been teaching wellness for years. I could rattle off the benefits of breathwork in my sleep (ironic, given the circumstances).
But it was another thing entirely to see the data confirm it. Not in a clinical study with a thousand participants. In my own body. On my own wrist. In my own app.

The Revelation

In our quest to optimize health, we forget that the most effective practices are ancient — breathwork, meditation, sound therapy. They've been working for thousands of years. We just finally have the technology to prove it.

And it wasn't just me. When I started leading the retreat, the participants' responses floored me:

"I had a good night's sleep without any sleep aids for the first time in years."

People who couldn't fall asleep for hours were sleeping easily within days. The same pattern I experienced — except they were seeing it too.

Your autonomic nervous system has two modes: sympathetic (fight-or-flight) and parasympathetic (rest-and-digest). Chronic stress keeps you locked in sympathetic mode — even when you're lying in bed. Your body is "on" even when you want it to be off.

The practices in this protocol directly stimulate the vagus nerve — the main highway of your parasympathetic nervous system. Through specific breathwork patterns, sound vibrations, and guided deep relaxation, your body physically shifts out of stress mode. Not conceptually. Not metaphorically. Measurably.

It's why my HRV jumped. It's why my recovery scores flipped. And it's why participants report falling asleep faster, sleeping deeper, and waking up more refreshed — often within days.
